Information Security

Information security refers to the properties of information processing and storing (technical or non-technical) systems that ensure the protection goals of confidentiality, availability and integrity.

Information security serves to protect against dangers and threats, to avoid economic damage and to minimize risks. In practice, information security within the framework of IT security management is based, among other things, on the international ISO/IEC 27000 series.

In German-speaking countries, an approach based on IT-Grundschutz is widespread. The ISO/IEC 15408 (Common Criteria) standard is frequently used in the evaluation and certification of IT products and systems. Another important series of standards in information security is IEC 62443, which deals with the cybersecurity of industrial automation and control systems. (IACS), pursuing a holistic approach for operators, integrators and manufacturers and becoming increasingly important in Industry 4.0 in the future.
